Short version: your files never leave your device. stl to step (convertstltostep.com) converts STL files to STEP using code that runs inside your web browser. We do not have a conversion server, and we never receive, see or store your 3D models.
This policy explains what information is involved when you use the website, and the choices you have. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean stl to step, and “the site” means convertstltostep.com.
Your files
- STL files you open are read and converted locally in your browser, using a Web Worker.
- The STEP files you download are created on your device. We never transmit them anywhere.
- 3D previews, snapshots and ZIP downloads are also generated on your device.
- When you close or reload the page, the files are removed from your browser’s memory.
Information we collect
We don’t ask you to create an account, and the converter doesn’t collect your name, email address or any other personal details. The only information involved in using the site is described below.
Information stored on your device
We save your light or dark theme choice in your browser’s local storage, so the site remembers it next time. It is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These logs can include your IP address, browser type, the pages you requested and the time of the request. They never contain your 3D files. Logs are kept for a limited period and are used only for security and keeping the site running.
Emails you send us
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, and we delete it when it’s no longer needed. We never add you to a mailing list.
Cookies and tracking
The site doesn’t use cookies, tracking pixels or advertising. Fonts and scripts are served from our own domain, so loading the site doesn’t send your data to third-party services such as font or analytics providers.
Third parties
We don’t sell, rent or share personal information. If we add privacy-friendly analytics or advertising in the future to keep the tool free, we will update this page before doing so. Links to other websites are covered by those websites’ own privacy policies.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Because your files are processed on your own device and never sent to us, they can’t be exposed by a breach of our systems.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU and UK) and the CCPA (California) may give you the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it’s used. Since we hold almost no personal information, these requests will usually concern emails you have sent us. To make a request, email contact@convertstltostep.com.
Children
The site is a general-audience tool and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
